Character Matters

As I read "Living Life as an Entrepreneurial Hero," I had a few thoughts. I've been lucky to see the honesty and integrity of both my husband and my dad as business owners. My dad owned and operated a trucking company for many years. He was a trusted individual, and people felt comfortable and confident doing business with him. Customers knew that when he gave his word, it was honest and they could trust him. Trust was important to my dad. Although my dad has passed away, I often hear from people about how they felt about him. He is remembered as someone with amazing character. He was not only trustworthy, but also a very hard worker. People knew he would do his very best for them. My husband has been a dentist for many years. He could have the opportunity to tell a patient that they need certain work done, when in fact it could wait or is really not necessary. He tells me that he wants to be able to sleep at night, look himself in the mirror, and know that he has been completely honest. Honesty is very important to my husband, and he is a great example to me. It seems like nowadays, the world is less focused on character and more focused on making money and getting ahead in life, often at the expense of someone else. To be able to trust someone is priceless. "Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair." "People need to feel like they can trust someone, whether it's getting a car repaired, having dental work done, or hiring someone for a job. In my opinion, when someone does something wrong or dishonest, it eventually catches up to them. It's very important to me to have good character and integrity, whether it's at church, work, or in day-to-day interactions with people."
